abstract |
Polyarylene sulfide resins essentially free of disulfide linkages are obtained by reacting S 2 Cl 2 or S 2 Br 2 with a benzenoid aromatic compound having 0-2 substituents per benzene ring at about 90° C.-350° C. in the presence of a metal halide Friedel-Crafts catalyst. The process is conveniently carried out at 90° C.-150° C. in inert solvent solution from which the polymer precipitates as it is formed. |
