abstract A process for drying water-wet animal hides comprising contacting the water-wet hides with a single phase drying medium comprising a chlorine-containing carrier liquid plus methanol and removing the hides from contact with the drying medium when the requisite amount of water has been removed from the hides. The useful carrier liquids are 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane, trichlorofluoromethane, tetrachloroethylene and 1,1,1-trichloroethane.
