Daunorubicin (also known as daunomycin) derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> I wherein X is <IMAGE> and R is -COCF3 or H which are prepared by hydrogenating 9-desacetyl-9-keto-N-trifluoroacetyldaunorubicin, an unexpectedly stable key-intermediate which is itself a new compound, are useful in treating certain mammalian tumors. |
