New physiologically active 1,2,4,5-tetrahydro-3H-2-benzazepin-3-ones having the general formula <IMAGE> wherein R1 is hydrogen or phenyl, R2 is hydrogen, alkyl, C3-C6-alkenyl, C1-C4-acyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, mono- or dialkylaminoalkyl, cyanoalkyl, alkoxyacetyl, carbamoylalkyl, acetamido-C2-C5-alkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl or (tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yloxy)alkyl, the alkyl and the alkoxy radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, R4 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R5 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl or phenyl, R7 is hydrogen, halogen or C1-C4-alkoxy and R8 is hydrogen, halogen or C1-C4-alkyl, at least one of the symbols R1to R8 being other hydrogen, processes for the preparation thereof and pharmaceutical compositions containing the same. In particular, the compounds of this invention are useful in the treatment of memory disorders. |
