abstract Syringealdehyde and vanillin are produced from alkaline or neutral sulphite waste liquors by alkaline oxidative treatment of the liquor and subsequent isolation of a mixture of the aldehydes. Syringealdehyde is separated from vanillin by fractional distillation.
