abstract A catalyst composition for hydrocarbon conversions such as paraffin isomerization is described which comprises a porous, refractory inorganic oxide carrier having deposited thereon a fused salt complex consisting of aluminum chloride and/or bromide and manganous chloride and/or bromide, said fused salt complex being formed by heating a composite mixture of the halide salts to a temperature above the melting point of the composite.
