titleOfInvention Purification of ferric chloride
abstract The present invention relates to a process for the purification of ferric chloride. Broadly, the process comprises introducing a mixture of ferric chloride and non-volatile impurities into a treating zone maintained at an elevated pressure and temperature, said temperature being about the boiling point of the mixture at the selected pressure whereby a substantially pure ferric chloride vapor is recoverable as an overhead fraction and the non-volatile impurities are withdrawable as a slurry in a liquid ferric chloride bottoms fraction. The withdrawn slurry is heated to vaporize the ferric chloride and then introduced into a solids separator. The vaporized ferric chloride leaving the solids separator is cooled and recycled to the treating zone.
