titleOfInvention | High temperature polyimides from 2,3-diacylsuccinic acid diester with diamines |
abstract | Polyimides which are stable at temperatures up to about 450* C. to 500* C. and which are useful for high temperature applications are prepared by reacting 2,3-diacylsuccinic diesters with diamines in a 1:1 molar ratio. Polyimides are also produced by reacting 2,3-diacylsuccinic diesters with diamines in a 2:1 molar ratio to form bis(pyrrole-3,4-diesters), hydrolysing the tetraesters to form the corresponding bis(pyrrole-3,4dicarboxylic acids), dehydrating the tetracarboxylic acids to form the corresponding bis(pyrrole-3,4-anhydrides), reacting the dianhydrides with aliphatic or aromatic diamines to form poly(amic acids), and thermally cyclizing the poly-(amic acids) to form polyimides. Alternatively, the aforementioned tetraesters, tetracarboxylic acids, and dianhydrides can each be reacted with bis(orthophenylenediamines) to form poly-(imidazopyrrolones) which are also useful for high-temperature applications. |
