abstract In a fluid-energy or jet-milling system in which a gas stream entrains a granular or particulate material in a jet against a surface to further comminute or pulverize the milled material, the operating or carrier gas is compressed prior to introduction into the mill, expands as a jet in the mill chamber and is separated from the comminuted solid matter thereafter. The gas stream is cooled prior to introduction into the fluid-energy mill and subsequent to compression and the material to be milled is precooled by the spent carrier gas.
