titleOfInvention Carboxyalkyl modified ethyl cellulose
abstract Cellulose derivatives are described comprising a normally waterinsoluble ethyl cellulose having 0.05 to 0.4 carboxyalkyl groups per anhydroglucose unit of the cellulose. These derivatives are insoluble in water and in acid medium but are soluble in basic aqueous media. They also have been found to be thermogelling. The use of these derivatives as coating materials and as shaped objects via forming techniques making use of the thermogelling property is disclosed.
