titleOfInvention Process for preparing odor and irritation free formaldehyde disinfectant
abstract NEW FORMALDEHYDE BASED DISINFECTANTS ARE FORMED BY PASSING FORMALDEHYDE GAS THROUGH A HIGHLY POLAR ORGANIC SOLVENT SUCH AS DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE (DMSO) or dimethyl formamide (DMF) to form a gel-like polymer or by heating paraformaldehyde in the presence of a polar organic polyhydroxy solvent such as glycerol, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. The disinfectants exhibit disinfection properties against bacterial vegetative cells, bacterial spores and soil organisms but are absent the penetrating odor and eye and ear irritation that is characteristic of other forms of formaldehyde.
