abstract The production of sodium vapor in the char bed of a chemical recovery furnace is monitored as an indirect indication of the efficiency of the reduction of Na2SO4 to Na2S. The sodium vapor production is monitored by means of an optical device sensitive to the photon energy emitted by burning sodium and relatively insensitive to other photon energy from the burning char bed.
