Acids of the structure RCH2(C*CCH2)m(CH2)nCH CHCOOH where R is a monovalent aliphatic radical, m is 0 and n is 0, or m is 1 to 5 and n is 1 to 6, are prepared by condensation of a Grignard reagent RMgBr with an acid BrCH2(C*CCH2)m(CH2)nCH CHCOOH. The resulting enynoic acids are useful as intermediates, especially in the preparation of prostaglandin precursors, such as arachidonic acid. |
