Novel 5'',6''-dihydro-2H-pyran-4''-yl prostaglandin ether compounds of the formula WHEREIN R1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R2 and R3 are hydrogen when Y is a single bond and R2 R3 are absent when Y is a double bond; R5 is hydrogen or WHEN X is a double bond; and WHEN X is a single bond; WHEN X is a double bond and WHEN X is a single bond; Z1 is a cis or trans -CH CH- or CH2CH2-; Z2 is trans -CH CH- or -CH2CH2-; n is 1 to 5; m is 0 to 5; and the non-toxic salts. The novel compounds possess pharmacological properties as modifiers of smooth muscle activity, gastric secretion, blood pressure, lipolysis and the reproductive system. The compounds also induce labor and menses and they can be used for the relief of asthma and nasal congestion and as platelet anti-aggregation agents. |
