abstract The present invention relates to an acid stripping process for recovering nickel selectively from an organic oxime containing copper and nickel. By employing only limited amounts of acid, sufficient to provide about equivalent latent hydrogen ion therein to latent nickel ion of the oxime stream, nickel can be stripped in a multistage countercurrent process preferentially to copper. Hydrogen ion of the acid exchanges with nickel ion of the oxime molecule in accordance with the equation:
