abstract 3-(( Alpha -Methoxy-4-substituted cinnamoyl)oxymethyl)-7acylamidoceph-3-em-4-carboxylic acid esters are prepared by treating the 3-(( Alpha -methoxy-4-substituted cinnamoyl)oxymethyl)-7-aminoceph-3-em-4-carboxylic acid esters with an acylating agent. The compounds display an antibacterial action against gram-positive bacteria, for example, Bacillus subtilis and Staphlococcus aureaus, especially penicillinresistant strains, and are also useful against gram-negative bateria, for example, Escherichia coli and Salmonella schottmuelleri.
