WATER EMPOLYED IN COOLANUFACTURE OF PULP PAPER AND WATER EMPLOYED IN COOLING WATER SYSTEMS, AS WELL AS OTHER INDUSTRIAL WATERS, PROVIDE ENVIRONMENT WHICH ARE CONDUCTIVE TO SLIME FROMATION. THE NOVEL COMPOSITIONS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION ARE MIXTURES WHICH SHOW UNEXPECTED SYNERGISTIC ACTIVITY AGAINST MICROORGANISMS, INCLUDING BACTERIA, FUNGI AND ALGAE, WHICH PRODUCE SILIME IN AQUEOUS SYSTEMS. THE SLIME, OF COURSE, IS OBJECTIONABLE FROM AN OPERATIONAL AND/OR AN AESTHETIC POINT OF VIEW. SPECIFICALLY, THE INVENTION IS DIRECTED TO AND THE USE OF COMPOSITION COMPRISING A COMBINATION OF 3,3,4,4-TETRACHLOROTETRAHYDROTHIOPHENE1,1-DIOXIDE (OR DERIVATIVES THEREOF) AND BIS(TRI-N-BUTYL TIN) OXIDE. THE INVENTIVE COMPOSITIONS INHIBIT THE GROWTH OF SLIME IN WATER, OR MORE SPECIFICALLY, POSSESS BIOCIDAL ACTIVITY AGAINST BACTERIA, FUNGI AND/OR ALGAE.
