STRONG BASE, ANION EXCHANGE RESIN CONTAINING A MAJOR AMOUNT OF STYRENE, OR ANOTHER AROMATIC VINYL CONSTITUENT, AND CROSSLINKED WITH A MINOR AMOUNT OF AN ALIPHATIC POLYFUNCTIONAL METHACRYLATE HAVING AT LEAST THREE METHACRYLATE GROUPS SUCH AS TRIMETHYLOLPROPANE TRIMETHACRYLATE. THE RESIN IS PREPARED BY SUSPENSION POLYMERIZATION AND IS THEREAFTER GIVEN A CHLOROMETHYLATION AND AMINOLYSIS TREATMENT TO CONVERT IT INTO A STRONG BASE RESIN. OTHER METHODS OF PREPARING THE STRONG BASE RESINS NOT INVOLVING DIRECT CHLOROMETHYLATION CAN ALSO BE USED. THE RESIN SHOWS UNUSUAL PHYSICAL STABILITY AND IS PARTICULARY USEFUL IN STRINGENT APPLICATIONS SUCH AS THE RECOVERY OF URANIUM COMPLEXES FROM ACIDIC LEACH LIQUORS. |
