TRIS (2-HALOOALKYL) PHOSPHITES ARE PREPARED BY REACTING A PHOSPHORUS TRIHALIDE WITH AN ALKYLENE OXIDE IN THE PRESENCE OF A TERTIARY AMINE HYDROHALIDE, A TETRA-ALKYL QUATERNARY AMMONIUM HALIDE, OR A MIXTURE THEREOF. THESE TRIS (2-HALOALKYL) PHOSPHITES ARE USEFUL INTERMEDIATES IN THE PREPARATION OF FLAME RETARDANT PHOSPHATE ESTERS. |
