Anthraquinone dyes are made by the reaction of anthraquinone intermediates, substituted in each of the alpha positions with a hydroxyl group or an amino group and containing at least one Alpha -amino group, with an aralkyl alcohol, such as benzyl alcohol, in sulfuric acid medium preceded by or followed by halogenation. Synthetic textile fibers, in particular, polyethylene terephthalate fibers, when dyed with the new dyes are colored in blue shades which are substantive, light fast, sublimation resistant and retain their shade well when viewed under different light sources. |
