titleOfInvention | Method of protecting images |
abstract | A method is disclosed for applying a protective overcoat to developed images, such as a developed electrostatic charge pattern. The protective overcoat is applied electrophoretically from a dispersion of transparent resin particles in an electrically insulating carrier liquid. The process involves the formation of a developed image on an image-bearing member having associated therewith a conductive backing. An external electrical source is then provided. Next, an electrical field and a resulting electrical bias potential is provided between the electrical source and the conductive backing. While the bias potential is applied, a dispersion of transparent charge-bearing resin particles in an electrically insulating carrier liquid is applied to the member with the result that the resin particles are uniformly deposited over the image-bearing surface of the member. |
