DISCLOSED HEREIN ARE COMPOUNDS HAVING THE FORMULA (L)2MXY, WHEREIN (L) IS A PHOSPHINITE, PHOSPHONITE, THIOPHOSPHINITE, OR DITHIOPHOSPHONITE LIGAND, M IS PD OR PT AND X AND Y ARE ALIKE OR DIFFERENT AND ARE SELECTED FROM CHLORINE, BROMINE, IODINE, VARIOUS SUBSTITUTED AND UNSUBSTITUTED ALKYLS AND ARYLS, CYANO,SNCL3, ISOCYANATO, THIOCYANATO, AROYL AND LOWER PERFLUOROALKYL GROUPS.
