GLYCOSIDE COMPOSITIONS ARE PREPARED BY REACTING A MONOSACCHURIDE, OR A COMPOUND HYDROLYZABLE TO A MONOSACCHARIDE, WITH A MONOHYDRIC ALCOHOL HAVING FROM 8 TO 25 CARBON ATOMS, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ACID CATALYST AND IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALKYLENE GLYCOL CONTAINING FROM THREE TO FIVE CARBON ATOMS. THE GLYCOSIDE COMPOSITIONS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION ARE USEFUL AS DETERGENTS, GELLING AGENTS, LUBRICANTS, WETTING AGENTS, DYING ASSISTANTS, TEXITLE SOFTENERS, AND FOOD EMULSIFIERS. |
