abstract In the apparatus disclosed, a clad rod is positioned in front of the light receiving surface of a dichroic mirror system, which is in turn placed in front of the pick-up tube. The clad rod is composed of transparent material having a relatively high refractive index. It is clad with a thin transparent material having a relatively low refractive index. Part of the clad rod is provided with a light diffusing roughened surface. Light is directed toward one end of the clad rod by a light source.
