titleOfInvention Process for the prevention of explosions in fermentation reactions involving burnable components
abstract IN FERMENTATION REACTIONS IN WHICH BURNABLE COMPOUNDS ARE USED AS THE SOURCE OF CARBON, THE POSSIBILITY OF EXPLOSION IN PRESENT SINCE OXYGEN-CONTAINING GASES MUST ALSO BE INTRODUCED. EMULSIFICATION OF THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE REACTION VESSEL ELIMINATES THE DANGER OF EXPLOSION WITHIN THE VESSEL. ON LEAVING THE VESSEL, THE EMULSION MAY BE BROKEN EITHER BY MECHANICAL OR CHEMICAL MEANS. AT THIS POINT A GAS WHICH DOES NOT SUPPORT COMBUSTION MAY BE ADDED TO DILUTE THE GASEOUS MIXTURE RELEASED FROM THE EMULSION AND THEREBY ELIMATE THE DANGER OF EXPLOSION EXTERNAL TO THE REACTION VESSEL.
