abstract It is disclosed that the particle size distribution of crystalline sodium nitrilotriacetate (NTA) can be controlled to achieve a desired bulk density of the product and to provide a product that centrifuges readily. The control is obtained by conducting the crystallization and/or crystal growth of NTA in the presence of a centrifugal impeller operative at a peripheral velocity of from about 20 to about 80 feet per second whereby the crystals are selectively abraded or fractured to limit growth of the periphery of the crystals enhancing the relative growth rate of the crystals in the thickness dimension.
