abstract A process and apparatus for removing the outer covering from cereal grains by a wet method consisting of subjecting the grains to moisture and to mechanical agitation for mixing the grains and causing them to rub against each other under pressure. The pressure is maintained substantially constant and is uniformly distributed within the mass of the treated grains and in the presence of water equal to between 5 and 15 percent of the dry weight of the grains. The water adheres to the grains by capillary action and penetrates their covers in the course of treatment.
