SOME NEW 1''-VARIABLE-1,,1''-DIAHHALO-HALOBENZENEAZOMETHANES HAVE BEEN SYNTHESIZED AND FOUND TO BE ACTIVE AGAINST ARTHROPOD PESTS, PARTICULARLY INSECTS AND MITES. THE 1''-1''HALOGENS MAY BE BROMINE, CHLORINE, OR FLUORINE, INDEPENDENTLY. THE BENZENE RING HAS TWO AND, VARIABLY, UP TO FIVE SUBSTITUENTS, FOR EXAMPLE, HALOGEN ATOMS (AT LEAST ONE), ALKYL GROUPS, ALKOXYL GROUPS, AND HALO-ALKYL GROUPS. THE 1''-VARIABLE GROUP MAY HAVE AS MANY AS 12 CARBON ATOMS. METHODS FOR USE IN CONTROLLING ARTHROPOD PESTS ARE DESCRIBED. REPRESENTATIVE FORMULATIONS FOR USE AS ANTIARTHROPODAL AGENTS ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. |
