abstract DESULFURIZED ACTIVE CARBON IS PRODUCED BY STEAM TREATING A SULFUR-CONTAINING PRE-PYROLYZED OR UNPYROLYZED COMPOSITION CONTAINING AN AROMATIC ACID SALT AT A TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF 450*C. WHEREBY THE SULFUR IS CONVERTED TO H2S AND S (VAPOR) AND A RECYCLABLE BASE IS FORMED. WHEN PYROLYSIS IS CONDUCTED SEPARATELY AND PRIOR TO THE STEAM TREATMENT IT IS PERFERABLY CONDUCTED AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 450*C. AND 1,000*C. AROMATIC CARBOXYLIC ACIDS ARE PREFERRED AND ESPACIALLY COKE ACID DERIVED FROM THE OXIDATION OF PETROLEUM COKE.
