titleOfInvention Absorbing olefins with a copper-exchanged type x zeolite
abstract A new composition of matter, a method for the preparation of a copper-exchanged Type X structured zeolite and a separation process employing the same. The zeolite sorbent is prepared by a procedure employing an aqueous ion exchange step and a final activation step including contacting a copper-exchanged zeolite with a mixture containing a cuprous salt and a hydrocarbon. The process involves the selective separation of olefinic hydrocarbons from saturated hydrocarbons and employs a Type X structured zeolite containing copper cations at a portion of the cationic exchange sites within the zeolite. The olefins are selectively retained by the sorbent and are removed in a concentrated form by a desorption step.
