abstract |
A DILUTE AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF ACRYLIC OR METHACRYLIC ACID, CONTAINING LESS THAN 70 PERCENT BY WEIGHT OF THE ACID, IS ESTERIFIED IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALCOHOL AND AN ESTERIFICATION CATALYST. DURING THE ESTERIFICATION, THE SOLUTION IS CONTACTED WITH AT LEAST TWO TIMES THE WEIGHT OF THE ACID OF A HARDLY WATER-SOLUBLE ORGANIC SOLVENT MIXTURE. THE SOLVENT MIXTURE COMPRISES AT LEAST ONE SATURATED HYDROCARBON AND AT LEAST ONE NUMBER SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS, ETHERS AND KETONES. THE RESULTING ESTER OF THE ACID IS THEREBY TRANSFERRED TO THE SOLVENT MIXTURE. |
