abstract A PROCESS FOR DEPOSITING A NICKEL-COBALT MAGNETIC ELECTROPLATE UPON AN ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTING SUBSTRATE BY PASSING A CURRENT BETWEEN AN ANODE AND A SUBSTRATE AS THE CATHODE THROUGH AN ELECTROLYTE, WHERE THE ELECTROLYTE CONTAINS AT LEAST A SOLUBLE NICKEL SALT AND A SOLUBLE COBALT SALT IN SOLUTION, WITH THE IMPROVEMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF EFFECTING THE MR/HC RATIO CHARACTERIZED BY THE ADDITION OF AT LEAST A SMALL BUT EFFECTIVE AMOUNT OF RHENIUM AS A SOLUBLE RHENIUM SALT TO THE ELECTROLYTE. THE RHENIUM MAY BE SPECIFICALLY ADDED AS POTASSIUM PERRHENATE TO AN ELECTROLYE COMPRISING NICKEL CHLORIDE AND COBALT CHLORIDE SALTS IN AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION.
