abstract VISIBLE IMAGES CORRESPONDING TO LATENT ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE IMAGES ARE PRODUCED ON PHOTOGRAPHIC LAYERS INCORPORATING A RADIATION-SENSITIVE DIAZO MATERIAL, SUCH AS A DIAZONIUM SALT OR A DIAZO RESIN, WHICH EXHIBITS A CHANGE IN TRIBOELECTRIC SERIES POSITION UPON EXPOSURE TO ACTIVATING RAYS, BY MEANS OF A PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESS WHICH INCLUDES (A) IMAGEWISE EXPOSING THE PHOTOGRAPHIC LAYER TO ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION CAPABLE OF EFFECTING AN EXPOSED IMAGEWISE CHANGE IN TRIBOELECTRIC SERIES POSITION, (B) DIFFERENTIALLY TRIBOELECTRICALLY CHARGING THE SURFACE OF THE EXPOSED PHOTOGRAPHIC LAYER IMAGEWISE TO FORM A LATENT ELECTROSTATIC IMAGE THEREON AND (C) DEVELOPING THE LATENT ELECTROSTATIC IMAGE BY CONTACTING THE CHARGED SURFACE WITH A DEVELOPER COMPOSITION CONTAINING ELECTROSTATICALLY ATTRACTABLE TONER PARTICLES, TO FORM A PATTERN OF THE TONER PARTICLES ON THE CHARGED SURFACE CORRESPONDING TO THE NON-EXPOSED OR THE EXPOSED REGIONS. THE INCLUSION OF AT LEAST ONE SURFACE ACTIVE AGENT, SUCH AS ALKALI METAL OR AMMONIUM ALKYL SULFONATE, ALKALI METAL OR AMMONIUM SULFONATED ALKYL CARBOXYLATE ESTERS, ALKALI METAL OR AMMONIUM ARYL SULFONATES OR ALKYLAMINES, IN THE PHOTOGRAPHIC LAYER PROMOTES NOT ONLY EASE OF COATING, BUT ALSO AN ENHANCED DEVELOPED IMAGE DENSITY.
