WHEREIN R IS THE RESIDUE OF AN ALKYLENE GLYCOL OR POLYALKYLENE GLYCOL. THE LIQUID ISOCYANATE SO OBTAINED CAN BE USED FOR POLYURETHANE SYNTHESIS FOR WHICH THE UNTREATED METHYLENEBIS (PHENYL ISOCYANATE IS COMMONLY EMPLOYED. (PHENYL-COO-R-OOC-)BENZENE METHYLENEBIS (PHENYL ISOCYANATE) IS CONVERTED TO A FORM WHICH IS A STORAGE STABLE LIQUID EVEN ON EXPOSURE TO TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS~5*C. THE STORAGE STABLE COMPOSITION COMPRISES FROM ABOUT 85 TO ABOUT 50 PERCENT BY WEIGHT OF (A) THE ISOCYANATE OBTAINED BY HEATING METHYLENEBIS(PHENYL ISOCYANATE) WITH ABOUT 0.1 PERCENT TO ABOUT 3 PERCENT BY WEIGHT OF A TRIHYDROCARBYL PHOSPHATE AT A TEMPERATURE WITHIN THE RANGE OF ABOUT 160*C. TO ABOUT 250*C. AND FROM 15 TO ABOUT 50 PERCENT BY WEIGHT OF(B) A DIBENZOATE OF THE FORMULA |
