abstract | EXPOSED GRAINS OF A SILVER IODOHALIDE COATING SUCH AS A SURFACE IMAGE EMULSION CONTAINING SILVER IODO BROMIDE ARE DEVELOPED, RELEASING IODIDE IONS. THE IODIDE IONS RELEASED IMAGEWISE IN CONTACT WITH A DIFFERENT, UNEXPOSED SILVER HALDE LAYER, SCH AS AN INTERNAL IMAGE EMULSION, ACCELERATE SOLUTION OF THESE UNEXPOSED SILVER HALIDE GRAINS WHICH HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH A HETEROCYCLIC NITROGEN COMPOUND WHICH RETARDS SOLUTION OF THE SILVER HALIDE GRAINS IN A SILVER HALIDE SOLVENT SUCH AS SODIUM THIOSULFATE. THIS, FIXING OF THE UNEXPOSED LAYER PRODUCES A POSITIVE IMAGE OF SILVER HALIDE. POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE IMAGES CAN BE PRODUCED FROM THIS SILVER HALIDE IMAGE BY METHODS KNOWN IN THE ART SUCH AS SOLVENT TRANSFER, DYE BLEACH, DYE TRANSFER, REDUCTION AND INCORPORATED COUPLER SYSTEMS. X-RAY IMAGES CAN ALSO BE ENHANCED USING THE SYSTEM DESCRIBED IN THIS INVENTION. |
