7-( Alpha -3-Acylureidophenylacetamido)- and 7-( Alpha -3acylureidothienylacetamido)cephalosporanic acids and the corresponding betaines and desacetoxy derivatives are valuable as antibacterial agents, as nutritional supplements in animal feeds and as therapeutic agents in poultry and animals, including man, and are especially useful in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, most particularly those caused by the Pseudomonas genus. 7-(D- Alpha (3-(2''-furoyl)ureido)phenylacetamido)cephalosporanic acid, a preferred embodiment of the invention, is prepared by the treatment of 7-(D- Alpha -amino-phenylacetamido)cephalosporanic acid with 2-furoyl isocyanate. |
