A PROCESS FOR TREATING AN ARTICLE THAT HAS AN ESSENTIALLY THERMOPLASTIC POLYMER SURFACE TO REMOVE DEFECTS FROM THE SURFACE WHICH COMPRISES: (1) EXPOSING THE POLYMER SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE TO A PARTIAL PRESSURE OF A VISCOSITY REDUCING VAPOR FOR THE POLYMER; AND (2) ABSORBING SUFFICIENT VAPOR INTO THE POLYMER SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE TO REDUCE THE VISCOSITY OF THE POLYMER TO ALLOW THE POLYMER TO FLOW TO FORM A SMOOTH EVEN SURFACE. |
