abstract A far U.V. radiation source emitting high intensity of U.V. wavelengths principally shorter than 2,300 A.U. includes a low pressure of mercury vapor in the range 10 3 to 0.75 torr under operating conditions in an ambient of a noble gas at a pressure of 0.5 to 25 torr. During operation, lamp current is very high, in range of 0.5 to 25 ampere/cm.2, emitting strongly at 1,849 and 1,942 A.U.
