abstract |
A method of fracturing water-sensitive formations is disclosed. The new method involves determining the aqueous vapor pressure of the formation and injecting a fluid having a continuous oil phase and a dispersed water phase containing a sufficient quantity of a water-soluble aqueous vapor pressure depressant therein to reduce the aqueous vapor pressure of the fluid to a level that is about equal to that of the formation into the formation at a pressure and rate sufficient to open a fracture in the formation. |
