titleOfInvention | Multi-step reaction of textile materials with multi-functional groups reactive under different catalytic conditions |
abstract | Cellulosic fabrics are modified in two steps with compounds containing at least one group reactive under conditions of acid catalysis and at least one group reactive under conditions of alkaline catalysis, e.g., N-methylol acrylamides. In conducting the process, either the acid or the alkaline catalyzed reaction may be run first; the fabric may be formed into a garment subsequent to the first reaction but prior to the second reaction and an alkaline catalyst may be used which is substantially neutral on the fabric at ambient temperatures but becomes strongly alkaline at elevated temperatures. |
