titleOfInvention Reference electrode construction
abstract A reference electrode structure comprised of a tube, preferably glass, having an immersion end and a connector end. A substantial portion of the length of the tube is filled from its immersion end with a solidified mass of a suitable molten metal salt, such as silver chloride. An electrical conductor at least an end of which consists of the metal of the metal salt, such as silver, extends completely through the solidified mass of metal salt and projects from each end of the mass of metal salt. The portion of the conductor which consists of the metal of the metal salt is disposed in and projects from the mass of metal salt at the immersion end of the tube. The other end of the conductor is available for connecting the electrode structure to a measuring system. The structure may be incorporated as a part of a glass electrode structure or a reference half-cell including a saltbridge tube with a liquid junction.
