abstract 1,3-DIOXOLAN-4-YL-ALKYL-GUANIDINES SUBSTITUTED AT THE TWO-POSITION OF THE DIOXOLANE RING WITH HYDROGEN, ALKYL, SUBSTITUTED ALKYL, A CARBOCYCLIC RING SYSTEM, OR A SPIROCYCLIC RING SYSTEM IN WHICH THE TWO-POSITION CARBON ATOM OF THE DIOXOLANE RING IS A RING CARBON ATOM THEREOF, ARE PREPARED BY CONVERTING A 1,3-DIOXOLAN-4-YL-ALKYLAMINE TO A GUANIDINE BY REACTION WITH THIOPSEUDOUREA. THE AMINE IS PREPARED BY REACTING A HALIDE GROUP WITH A METALLO SALT OF PHTHALIMIDE FOLLOWED BY HYDROLYSIS. THE GUANIDINES HAVE PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY WHICH INCLUDES ANTI-HYPERTENSIVE ACTIVITY.
