Highly drawn polyamide monofilaments having a diameter of at least 15 mils which have been subjected to steam at specified conditions possess properties that render them particularly suitable in tires. The steam-modified surface layer of the monofilament is microporous, resulting in a dye-penetration of 315 microns which depth constitutes less than 6 percent of the transverse radius of the monofilament. The monofilament has an Xray orientation half-width that is no greater than about 12.5 degrees-chi. |
