abstract POLYOL ADJUVANTS ARE PROVIDED WHICH HAVE THE PROPERTY OF IMPARTING FLAME-RETARDANT CHARACTERISTICS TO PLYURETHANE FOAMS. THE ADJUVANTS ARE PREPARED BY CONDENSING AT LEAST ONE MOLE OF 3-HALO-1,2-PROPANEDIOL AND AT LEAST ONE MOLE OF 1,3-DIAHLO-2-PROPANOL WITH A TETRAHALO BISPHENOL A OR, ALTERNATIVELY, WITH THE RACTION PRODUCT OF AT LEAST ONE MOLE OF A PHENOL, A CHLOROPHENOL AND AT LEAST ONE MOLE OF THE SAME OR ANOTHER PHENOL WITH AT LEAST ONE MOLE OF FORMALDEHYDE. THE CONDENSATION PRODUCTS ARE SUBSEQUENTLY REACTED WITH THE SALT OF A SATURATED OR UNSATURATED PARTIAL ESTER OF PHOSPHORIC ACID AND OPTIONALLY BROMINATED IN THE LATTER CASE. FLAME-RETARDANT POLYURETHANE FOAMS ARE DISCLOSED CONTAINING THE NOVEL POLYOL ADJUVANTS.
