A TERTIARY ALCOHOL, A SECONDARY ALCOHOL, SULFATES, HALOGENIDES AND ESTERS OF SUCH ALCOHOLS. THE REACTION CAN ALSO BE CONDUCTED IN THE PRESENCE OF A FRIEDEL-KRAFTS CATALYST, SUCH AS BORON TRIFLUORIDE. THE PROCESS FACILITATES PRODUCTION OF COMPLEX ACIDS, SUCH AS 3-METHYL AND 3,5-DIMETHYL ADAMANTANYLACETIC ACIDS. |
