A TOCOPHEROL CONCENTRATED CONTAINING NON ALPHATOCOPHEROLS, SUCH AS ONE CONTAINING ALPHA, BETA, GAMMA, AND DELTA-TOCOPHEROLS, IS CONVERTED TO ESSENTIALLY ALL ALPHATOCOPHEROL BY REACTING WITH THE MIXED CONCENTRATE AN ALDEHYDE SUCH AS FORMALDEHYDE AND A HYDROGEN HALIDE SUCH AS HYDROGEN CHLORIDE IN THE PRESENCE OF METALLIC TIN AS A REDUCING AGENT. |
