abstract A LOOSELY ASSEMBLED CRYOSTAT OF MODULAR CONSTRUCTION COMPRISES A DEWAR VESSEL HAVING A RESERVOIR OF LIQUID GAS REFRIGERANT. A VACUUM CHAMBER IS COUPLED TO THE DEWAR VESSEL VIA A REFRIGERANT TRANSFER DEVICE AND COOLED BY REFRIGERANT FROM THE RESERVOIR. THE VACUUM CHAMBER HAS A REFRIGERATED SURFACE FOR MOUNTING A RADIATION DETECTOR TO BE COLLED AND ELECTRICAL AND EVACUATING COUPLINGS FOR INDEPENDENT EVACUATION OF THE VACUUM CHAMBER. THE DEWAR VESSEL HAS NOZZLE OPENING INTO THE AREA OF THE RESERVOIR AND THE REFRIGERANT TRANSFER DEVICE INCLUDES THE NOZZLE, WHICH IS IN OPERATIVE PROXIMITY WITH THE REFRIGERATED SURFACE OF THE VACUUM CHAMBER.
