abstract |
A 2-(lower-alkoxy)-2-phenylalkanamidoxime, having hypoglycemic activity, is prepared by reacting a 2-(lower-alkoxy)-2phenylalkanenitrile with hydroxylamine. The intermediate 2(lower-alkoxy)-2-phenylalkanenitrile is prepared preferably by first reacting a benzaldehyde with a tri-(lower-alkyl) orthoformate to form the aldehyde di-(lower-alkyl) acetal, reacting the latter with an acyl halide to form the corresponding a-halobenzyl lower-alkyl ether and reacting said ether with an alkali cyanide to yield said intermediate nitrile. |
