HIGH THERMAL ENERGY DENSITY RATE CONTROLLED HEAT SOURCE SYSTEMS PARTICULARLY SUITABLE FOR USE IN HEATED UNDERWATER DIVER SUITS AND PORTABLE THERMAL CONDITIONING JACKETS ARE PROVIDED. THE HEAT SOURCE SYSTEM HAS A MASS OF CHEMICAL REACTANTS SELECTED TO PROVIDE A HIGHLY EXOTHERMIC CHEMICAL REACTION DEVOID OF GASEOUS BY-PRODUCTS. A HIGH HEAT OF FUSION MATERIAL SURROUNDS THE MASS OF REACTANTS AND ACTS AS A HEAT STORAGE UNIT FOR DISSIPATING HEAT AT A CONTROLLED RATE WHICH HEAT IS OBTAINED FROM THE EXOTHERMIC REACTION. PREFERABLY MEANS ARE PROVIDED IN OPERATIVE RELATIONSHIP TO THE HIGH HEAT OF FUSION MATERIAL FOR TRANSFERRING THE HEAT FROM THE MATERIAL TO A MOVING FLUID SUCH AS A LIQUID WHICH IS HEATED AT A CONTROLLED RATE AND PASSED INTO A BODY HEATING SUIT OF AN UNDERWATER DRIVER. PREFERABLY THE LASTMENTIONED MEANS COMPRISES A BOILER AND A STEAM INJECTOR WHICH IS USEFUL FOR PROVIDING PUMPING ACTION AS WELL AS REGULATING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE FLUID SO THAT BATTERIES OR ELECTRIC POWER ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE EITHER HEAT OR PUMPING (CIRCULATION POWER). |
