abstract | THE BENZOATE OF HYDROXYBENZOPHENONE IS OBTAINED AS A PRINCIPAL REACTION PRODUCT BY HEATING A MIXTURE OF BENZOIC ANHYDRIDE, CUPRIC BENZOATE, AT LEAST ONE OF IRON, ZINC, COBALT, OR MAGNESIUM BENZOATE, AND OPTIONALLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF FREE BENZOIC ACID AT 220-320* C. IN THE PRESENCE OF MOLECULAR OXYGEN. THE PRODUCT CAN BE HYDROLYZED TO MAKE HYDROXYBENZOPHENONE, A USEFUL CHEMICAL INTERMEDIATE AND FUNGICIDE. |
